Privacy Policy
Last updated: [insert date] — Draft, pending legal review
SmashingPads is built to need as little of your data as possible. Here's exactly what we do and don't collect.
This is also a very early, experimental project (see our Terms of Use) — data handling practices described here may change as the site develops, and we'll update this policy first if they do.
No accounts
There's no sign-up, login, email address, or password. Your board and any display name you add are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never leave your device unless you choose to share a board.
When you share a board
When you use the "Share board" feature, we store on our servers:
- The audio, images, names, and colors of the sounds on that board
- A view count for the shared link (how many times it's been opened)
- The IP address of requests to our servers, temporarily, solely to prevent abuse (rate limiting) — not linked to any profile or stored long-term
Anyone with your share link can view and play the board. A separate, private edit key (also stored only in your browser) is required to change or delete it.
Cookies and tracking
We don't use tracking cookies, analytics, or advertising SDKs at this time. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.
Children's privacy
SmashingPads is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with content or information, contact us at [insert contact email] and we'll remove it.
Deleting your data
You can delete a shared board at any time from within the app using your edit key. If you're unable to and need our help removing content, contact us at [insert contact email].
Third-party services
Our hosting and infrastructure providers process data on our behalf solely to run the site (for example, storing the files behind a shared board). They don't use it for their own purposes.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect data we store, but no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will change when we do.
